An Engineer's Space Race Stories and More
Authored and self-published
The author recalls memories of his start in electronic packaging technology when
Rt 128 in Massachusetts was the center of electronics. He describes stories not
documented elsewhere about how little was known about materials for our first
astronomical satellite in 1964, the rush and risks taken during the race to the moon
with the Russians, the drive to save weight in space designs, some unknown uses of
Gemini computers, debate on IBM's design for the Saturn V guidance computer, and
how IBM helped other computer companies participate in the Apollo program.
